Editor’s Note: The Truth About the Tooth Fairy, by Leah Cypress and illustrated by Sarah Lynne Reul, is an absolute delight. Sure, Miriam’s quest to find out if the tooth fairy is real and is relatable if you have a child or were one, but it’s the Jewish representation that I’m all in for. Miriam starts by asking if the tooth fairy is Jewish because she’s told that tooth fairy’s visit will be delayed because of Shabbat. Cypress seamlessly has Miriam explain Jewish customs and practices to readers all within the context of her quest. As to whether the tooth fairy is real, and if the tooth fairy is real, is she Jewish, you must read this book (preferably along with a chapter book aged reader) to find out. But get ready for more adventures with Miriam because this is just the first book in this new series, Miriam's Magical Creature Files.
The following excerpt is from The Truth About the Tooth Fairy (Miriam's Magical Creature Files #1): A Chapter Book, by Leah Cypess and illustrated by Sarah Lynne Reul, published by Harry N. Abrams (March 25, 2025). It was published with permission from the author.

Five Tiny Delights:
When one of my favorite authors releases a new book.
Spotting a red fox while walking through the woods.
Views of the ocean, even if only seen through a car window.
Trying new recipes. It’s extra delightful (but not strictly necessary) if one of my children will actually eat the result.
Those days when it's warm enough to write outdoors but still too cold for mosquitoes

Five Tiny Jewish Delights:
Shabbos afternoon walks.
Hamentaschen with unusual fillings.
Putting together a family Purim theme. (Definitely not 100% a delight, but the result is always worth it.)
The morning after a fast day, when I no longer have to limit my caffeine intake.
My various whatsapp groups with other Jewish writers (far from a tiny delight, but I’m going to count it anyhow).

Love this! I wish I could send this book back in time to my daughter at age 5.
From the excerpt I can only say, “More please!” I look forward to reading it.
