I read this as both a reader and as a visual artist. For the reader in me, it was beautifully written. For the artist in me I was angered at the husband's attempts to control his wife' s use of her gift by using religion. The use of a document created 2,000 years ago about wives submitting to your husbands. Perhaps that was the state of society then but that is not the way most people marriage today. Bravo to her for not abandoning her art.

Thank you for your kind words about the writing, Judith! This push and pull of art, family, and faith is a recurring theme for Cait throughout the book. In this passage, we see her in middle age and, so she thought, very comfortable with all three. Then her old teenage love, Jake, comes back into her life and upsets this balance. To find out what happens next, I hope you read the book when it's released in April!
