I am totally blown away by this incredibly inspirational story. What an amazing artist! What vision and creativity. But, reading this story, I cannot call what Tanya Bub does as art. To me, it's more a calling, a mission. The ability to make something so exquisite as all these sculptures out of something discarded, considered worthless is more than art, or creativity; it is a social statement. It is saying that everything has an inherent worth, every being and every person has an inherent worth - something about which we all need to be reminded. Her special talent opened my eyes and changes the perspective of how we see people and things around us.

It takes me back to my days in my Habonim Youth Movement, when I would read Socialist and Zionist-Socialist philosophers. To this day, I remember what I learned back then - to see people as more than the function they serve. What they do does not define them or who they are; they are an integral part of our society. They are people with loves, lives, feelings and personalities. So, I always make an effort to acknowledge and show respect for people, even those who do the most menial tasks, like street cleaners or those who maintain public hygiene facilities. I make a point of greeting them and letting them know I appreciate their work. They may be seen as the driftwood of our materialist and success-oriented society, but even driftwood has a value and a purpose. Thank you Tanya Bub for reminding me!

I love this story so much!! In fact, after reading it, I posted it on Facebook, then went back and spent another hour reading it again, just drinking in the luscious details of this life and these spectacular works of art—each with its own soul. I especially like that Ms. Bub happened back into art after several diversions elsewhere. It’s a perfect story for Friday the 13th, day of the Divine Feminine. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

This article and Tanya Bub have been a monumental source of joy, inspiration, gratitude, celebration, and awe. I’ve re-read it several times, spent oodles of time marvelling at Tanya’s art, ingenuity and generosity of spirit and her love of, respect for, and insight into animals. Her personal journey is one that gives me hope about so many things from a life grounded in personal and community integrity, guided by compassionate creativity, whimsy, and planetary sustainability. Toda. This has got me through some bumpy moments and allowed me to feel okay about stepping away from the meshugas and anxieties of the world - and claim the nourishment that comes from setting aside space and energy to make and appreciate art. It’s been hard to do that the last year nearly 450 days. Toda.

Tanya,

Your life is art in and of itself and you are a force of talents to be admired. How your art has informed your world and taken it to a higher level in regard to mental health is especially astonishing. I volunteer each day with folks in that arena and know how vital this work can be. Please keep bringing joy to a world that desperately needs it.

I love the new life given to driftwood which many of us see as the end of the line.

As the child of two visual artists and Jews, this story touched me on multiple levels. On an emotional level it is a wonderful tale of the Jewish spirit, and on a purely aesthetic level these are wonderful works of art.
